EPK counts the number of red cells per litre of blood. It complements Hb and EVF in the anaemia work-up.
Red cell count is part of the full blood count and helps determine whether anaemia is due to underproduction, accelerated breakdown, or blood loss.
What does low Red blood cells (EPK) mean?
Low EPK points to anaemia and is interpreted in the context of the rest of the blood count.
What does high Red blood cells (EPK) mean?
High EPK appears with dehydration, high altitude, smoking, or polycythaemia.
