Thyroglobulin antibodies complement TPO antibodies in assessing autoimmune thyroid disease. They are useful when TPO antibodies are negative but autoimmune disease is suspected.
The value is less specific than TPO antibodies but can still be positive in Hashimoto's disease.
What does low Thyroglobulin antibodies mean?
Negative result makes autoimmune thyroid disease less likely.
What does high Thyroglobulin antibodies mean?
Positive result indicates autoimmune thyroid disease, most often Hashimoto's.
