Vitamin D measures your overall vitamin D stores. It is central to bone health, muscle function, and immunity. Deficiency is common in Sweden during the winter months.
The body makes vitamin D in the skin from sunlight and gets a smaller amount from food. Darker skin, indoor lifestyle, older age, and overweight all raise the risk of deficiency.
What does low Vitamin D (25-OH) mean?
Low vitamin D is common in Sweden. Symptoms can include fatigue, muscle aches, and impaired immunity. Deficiency is treated with supplementation.
What does high Vitamin D (25-OH) mean?
Very high vitamin D is uncommon and almost always reflects excess supplementation.
